Appreciation of the work of Prof. J. Vacek in the field of Tamil and Dravidian linguistics by the Annamalai University, India


At a festive session at the conclusion of the conference on Endangered Languages at the Centre of Advanced Study in Linguistics (UGC-SAP-CAS-IV), Annamalai University in Tamilnadu, on 15th March 2013, Prof. J. Vacek was granted the “Certificate of Appreciation” by Annamalai University as an evaluation of his work in the field of Tamil and Dravidian.


On that occasion the Annamalai University honoured three other scholars from Europe – Prof. Ulrike Niklas (University in Köln a.R., Germany), Prof. Christiane Pilot Raichoor (LACITO – CNRS, Paris, France) and a Tamil scholar Prof. Appasamy Murugaiyan (EPHE, Paris University, France).


Prof. J. Vacek is a specialist in Indian languages and in Mongolian. He has been active in the field for the last almost fifty years, has lectured on Indian languages and cultures and was also teaching Mongolian between 1976 and 1990.


The Centre of Advanced Study in Linguistics, Annamalai University is one of the leading academic centres of the study of Tamil and Dravidian languages. A number of significant scholars and professors specialising in Tamil and Dravidian graduated from this University.
