Mongolica Pragensia Mission Statement
Mongolo-Tibetica Pragensia is a biannual peer-reviewed international journal publishing original research papers in English dedicated to Mongolia, Tibet and the broader region of Central Asia. The concept of Central Asia, as we understand it, is clearly and unmistakably delineated by its centre comprising the high plateaus of Mongolia and Tibet. Its borders, however, are fluid, shifting according to the historical period and point of view. Contributions to the journal include studies of the languages, culture and religion of this region.
The journal has been published since 2002 by TRITON publishing house in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. Between 2002 and 2006, it was a reviewed volume of papers appearing under the title Mongolica Pragensia. In 2007 it was transformed into a regular peer-reviewed and officially accredited journal, and in 2008 the title was changed to Mongolo-Tibetica Pragensia. Two volumes are published each year, bringing to light the latest original research in Mongolian and Tibetan and in the broader field of related studies. In 2008 one of the volumes was a special issue on “Mediums and Shamans in Central Asia”; this began a tradition of occasional special issues devoted to particular topics, a practise which will continue in future.
In the beginning the main focus was on Mongolian philological and linguistic studies. This was supplemented by papers devoted to the broader area of Central Asia, and since 2005 contributions on Tibet-related topics have been published as well. Besides various aspects of Mongolian linguistic studies, Mongolica Pragensia has published papers on the Manju-Tungus languages and on comparisons between the Dravidian and Altaic languages. The versatile and comprehensive academic approach has ranged from linguistics to studies of culture and religion. The contributions presented the results of original research work, particularly field work conducted in Mongolia, Tibet and Central Asia from the 1990s to the present.
The journal invites papers presenting original research within the above mentioned broad range of subjects.
